Fitness Instructor for Shape Up New York

NYC Parks and Recreation seeks your participation to enrich our recreation facilities! Shape Up New York is a free fitness program for all ages and is looking for additional instructors at Hunt's Point Recreation Center. Volunteer opportunities are available for a variety of classes and activities, including aerobics, yoga and pilates. Volunteers must have some experience as a fitness instructor, and once accepted, will have the opportunity to shadow a current instructor before leading their own classes. This position offers a lot of flexibility and creativity for enthusiastic volunteers interested in giving back to their communities and addressing pressing health issues such as Diabetes and Obesity.
Volunteers are required to undergo a background check and attend one day of training prior to starting. Classes are offered once a week for a six to eight week period.  This opportunity is sponsored by: New York City Department of Parks & Recreation

Subway: Take the 6 train to Hunts Point Avenue, cross the street, and take the #6 bus to Hunts Point Avenue and Lafayette Avenue. Walk back towards Lafayette Avenue, go left one block to Manida Street, make left onto Manida (you should see a baseball field), walk along the baseball field to the Recreation Center (on the right side of Manida Street). OR walk along Hunts Point Avenue, crossing under the Bruckner Expressway overpath, until you reach Lafayette Avenue. Make right, walk one block to Manida, make a left, walk a half block, and the center is to your left.
Driving: Take Southern Boulevard to Bruckner Boulevard OR take Bruckner Boulevard to Hunts Point Avenue OR take 163rd Street to Hunts Point Avenue. Take Hunts Point Avenue to Spofford Avenue, make a right onto Spofford Avenue, take Spofford to Manida Street, and you will see the center on the left hand side of the street. |
