Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Earn it! Keep it! Save it! Contra Costa provides free tax preparation to low and moderate income individuals and families. Tax returns are prepared by IRS certified volunteers at local community organizations.

Last year, 153 volunteers helped to prepare 2,493 tax returns which resulted in over $3.5 million in total federal refunds returned to the pockets of Contra Costa residents. This money ultimately became a great economic stimulus for the local economy. We need your help to reach even more families in 2010!

Join our exciting coalition of volunteers - we will provide free training and link you to a site near you to assist low-income families and individuals in your community. We have 18 sites throughout Contra Costa County.

Screener responsible for assisting clients with the intake form and ensuring that taxpayers have the correct tax documents and identification. This is a crucial role as it is the initial point at which important tax return information is gathered and verified. 3 hours of training provided.

• All of our screeners will be trained and certified by the IRS. Training classes will be held on December 12 th, January 9 th, and January 11 th. For tax professionals or experienced volunteers, an online training and certification tool is available.
• Site operation hours may vary by site but each volunteer is asked to commit to volunteer regularly (at least a 4 hour shift per week), beginning late January through April 15th.
• All volunteers need to be comfortable working with a computer.
