Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Our non-profit hospice has a growing youth bereavement program including outreach, education, and some fantastic child and teen support groups.

We need volunteers who are willing to go through hospice volunteer training and able to make a commitment to offer support for 10 week groups held Thursday nights. Your role will be as the extra eyes and ears for the group facilitator, making sure each group participant has what he or she needs.

You will receive training on how to appropriately support children with emerging grief symptoms like crying, outbursts, etc. We also need general office support if you are not interested or able to contribute to groups.

Helpful Qualifications Include:

• Credentials or education in Childhood Development.
• Experience providing childcare or working in mental health settings with children.
• Expressive arts background, musical talent, and/or ability to be silly while maintaining a safe environment for kids who are grieving and sad.
• Experience with grieving, loss, and death. Part of hospice training is getting in touch with your own grief. An ideal candidate is not actively grieving but knows how it feels.
