Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on November 20, 2009 |
Nobody wants to relive the heartbreak of pets and their owners forcibly separated during disasters. Disaster First Responders must be able to rescue and work with both human and animal victims of disasters. As members of our local CERT teams we are trained animal disaster responders who prepare for the worst possible events that may hit our communities. Animal disasters happen in California every year. Our first cohort of volunteers found itself sheltering animals in the Lockheed Fire (Santa Cruz, 2009) just weeks after graduating from our training! We need adults who are prepared to take both our training and get a number of FEMA certifications, Red Cross certifications etc. Expect to study for at least 80 hours for these unpaid, volunteer positions (nobody in Lamorinda DART or Lamorinda CERT is getting paid for volunteering).
