Volunteer Opportunity Details:

The Tri-County Red Cross needs a volunteer who can coordinate the efforts of other volunteers who want to work at the VA hospital in Lyons, NJ. This position is called the VA Hospital Coordinator. The VA Hospital Coordinator is responsible for working with the local VA Hospital Volunteer Director or appropriate staff to determine critical needs of the VA hospital. The VA Hospital Coordinator would recruit, train, and supervise volunteers in roles suggested as critical by the VA hospital; coordinator would match volunteers critical to VA hospital needs as well as the Service to the Armed Forces/Service to Military Hospitals programs the Red Cross runs. The Coordinator ensures that all volunteers meet all ARC and VA hospital orientation, background checks, and any other required process by both organizations to ensure all ARC volunteers are in good standing with both organizations.
Coordinator to meet quarterly with appropriate VA staff to identify any issues or concerns with the program as well as strategizes on upcoming events such as Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, or Christmas activities where ARC volunteers could provide additional support.

High School Diploma, Red Cross experience preferred, military background preferred. Experience in developing community based programs and ability to work with volunteers. Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills. Must be willing to complete VA volunteer orientation, background check, fingerprinting and commit to 50 or more hours of volunteering at the VA hospital, in addition to the standard Red Cross Volunteer paperwork requirements.
