SABAH is looking for volunteers for our 31st skating season!

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on October 29, 2009

SABAH, Skating Athletes Bold at Heart is currently looking for energetic and spirited volunteers to be a part of our 33rd skating season! Our mission is to "challenge individuals with special needs and their volunteer partners to experience the freedom, joy, and accomplishment of therapeutic ice-skating while achieving personal growth. Through SABAH, over 650 Western New Yorkers who face physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges grow in strength and spirit each year. SABAH's goal is to turn possibilities into realities for indviduals who are differently abled."

With that being said, our skating season kicked off the end of September. Our season runs through mid-April, and the commitment would be one hour a week(roughly 26 weeks). We are looking for on-ice and off-ice volunteers to participate at one of the five rinks we skate at! On Saturdays we skate at the Hamburg Town Rink from 10 AM-11:10AM; Sundays at the Amherst Pepsi Center 11:20AM-12:50 PM; Tuesdays at the North Buffalo Rink 4-5PM; and on Wednesdays you will find SABAH skaters at Niagara University's Dwyer Arena.

Our School-Day Program runs Monday through Friday at Riverside Park's Bud Bakewell Arena. School-Day volunteers would be working directly with children from the Buffalo Public Schools, Cantalician Centers, Summit Educational Resources, LOckport High School and Heritage Center and Heritage Chritian. There are normally two morning sessions per day. The volunteer has a choice to pick a day and session they would like to take part in.

Responsibilities of ALL on-ice volunteers includes:
-Works with group skating lessons
-Each volunteer is paired with an athlete, you will work with this individual each week.
-As a volunteer partner you will help skaters reach their personal goals and learn basic skating skills and techniques, as well as assisting the skater in our annual Celebration on Ice held in April.

Responsibilities of ALL off-ice volunteers includes:
-helping with adaptive equipment, registrations and fundraising programs.

If volunteering at SABAHsounds like a fit for you, please call SABAH at 362.9600 to speak with our staff. Or check out our website at www.sabahinc.org.

Our program offers so much more than ice skating! We hope to see you there!

There is no age requirement to volunteer, however you must have a positive attitude, and are responsible and reliable!
