AARP Money Management Representative Payee

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on September 12, 2011

The volunteer representative payee provides on-going direct service to low-income clients who are disabled or elderly, who have been designated by a federal agency (i.e., Social Security Administration) as incapable of handling their financial affairs, and who have neither family nor friends willing or able to assist. The volunteer representative payee makes regular visits with the client to organize and to pay bill using the designated benefits. The volunteer maintains control over the client’s benefits, signs all checks, and spends the client’s money to meet the current needs of the client. The volunteer promptly notifies the program coordinator if the client needs additional assistance. The purpose of this activity is to enable the client to prolong an independent way of life with minimum of intervention.
