Help Victims of Local Disasters, House Fires, Floods

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on July 22, 2011

Our Disaster Action Team members respond to scenes of local disasters such as house fires and localized flooding to ensure families who are displaced have hotel rooms, food and clothing as they put their lives back together.

We respond to a little more than one fire a week on average over the course of the year, and send at least two volunteers to every disaster. Volunteers talk to the families, determine what they need, help fill out some paperwork and call one of our contracted hotels to ensure they are taken care of.

Most volunteers only go out two or three times a year, but the help they provide to disaster clients is immeasurable. The support you give is the bridge for getting people from one of the worst moments of their lives to recovery.

We provide all training for free for disaster volunteers. If you also speak Spanish, that's a big plus!

Working with Disaster Action Team (DAT)
• Strong organizational, verbal, written communications skills
• Ability to be team player
• Able to respond as scheduled with own transportation
• Able to maintain confidentiality with clients matters
• A desire to help
