The American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter serves the communities of Pierce, Thurston, Mason, Lewis and Grays Harbor Counties.

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters locally and internationally; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.

Description:
Compassion In Action

Locally, the Red Cross assists a family devastated by a fire nearly every 48 hours in the South Sound. The most common disaster the Red Cross responds to is a house or apartment fire. These routine “Silent Disasters” hardly ever capture the headlines or people’s attention, but for the families who have lost everything – the results are devastating.

Red Cross Disaster Services: During a disaster response, Red Cross disaster volunteers provide for the immediate emergency needs such as food, clothing, temporary shelter, medication replacement, casework, community referrals, and compassion to individuals affected by local disasters.

Service to the Armed Forces (SAF): The Red Cross serves a lifeline for military families during a crisis. Twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year, the Red Cross sends these vital communications so service members may request leave to be by the bedside of a seriously ill child, attend the funeral of a loved one, take care of complicated family issues, or simply hear news regarding the birth of a baby.

Health & Safety: In an emergency, every second counts! Would you know what to do if a loved one or co-worker suddenly collapsed? If you have not been trained in Red Cross first aid, CPR, and AED training - do so today! A life may depend on it!

Our local Red Cross offers first aid, CPR, AED training, aquatics, babysitter’s training, HIV/AIDS prevention education and much more. Red Cross health & safety volunteers are needed to teach these lifesaving classes.
