To provide trouble kids an opportunity to become responsible adults.
Description:
Youth agency providing treatment, education, vocational training to chemically dependent persons ages 14-18. The program works to expand the children's knowledge of the affects of abusing alcohol and drugs, introducing them to the 12-step program and providing them the opportunity to reach scholastic achievement. The nine to twelve month residential program includes group therapy, one-to-one counseling and a strong emphasis on family therapy. The clients are introduced to alternative ways to make them feel good, such as: white-water rafting, snow skiing, participating in sports league, ropes course, employment opportunities, all combined to increase self-esteem and a sense of achievement.
History:
R House has been in operation for over 30 years. It began as a grant program serving young men, ages 18-21, that were incarcerated. It transitioned to serving teens with chemical dependency in 1980. It has increased from a six bed facility to 66 beds. It has expanded it services over the years to include a Non-public school, day treatment program, Charter School, teen relapse prevention, and Start Here Family Coaching.
