While being a place of refuge and shelter for children, ages 6 to 21, who are orphaned, neglected, abused and abandoned, it is also our mission to empower each child to rise above their past by giving them love, structure and an opportunity to succeed in life.

Description:
Eagle Harbor is a low management group home. Children received at Eagle Harbor join a natural family setting: family mealtimes, chores, devotions, vacations and extracurricular school/community activities. They are cared for by a set of Houseparents who lovingly provide for them as if they are their own. The individual needs of the children are carefully evaluated and administered by our caring staff that work together as a team for the children's benefit. Experienced professionals provide any needs that we are unable to meet.

History:
The history and background of Eagle Harbor begins with Danny & Liz Gilbert, Executive Directors. In search of a life that had more purpose and meaning Danny and Liz, along with their three boys, left a home, promising careers, family and friends and moved to Gadsden, Alabama. Their destination was Big Oak Ranch. This ranch is no ordinary ranch; it serves as a refuge to orphaned, neglected and abused boys. The roles Danny and Liz were about to accept woven together with their previous youth involvement in the church seemed to create the perfect fit.

God called and a vision was laid upon Danny's heart in the fall of 1998 to establish a new home in Charleston, South Carolina. Danny, Liz and their three boys returned to Charleston in the summer of 1999 without any guarantees or promises. Their only assurance was trusting God.

In October 2004, Eagle Harbor began receiving children in the first home.

Eagle Harbor staff is devoted to the cause of children and their deepest desire is that you join with them and experience the joy and peace that comes when you help change the life of a child. Believing that Eagle Harbor will be the difference between life or death to hurting children all over, it is our responsibility to provide the kind of care which empowers these children to rise above the circumstances that once held them captive.
