Agency Details:
AARP Tax-Aide Marin
With the help of dedicated volunteers, the Marin AARP Tax-Aide program provides free tax counseling and preparation services to low and middle income taxpayers, with special attention to those ages 60 and older. Our success in Marin County for 2009 allowed us to prepare 2,289 tax returns at our 5 AARP locations that resulted in refunds of almost $1.42 million dollars, plus an additional 247 tax returns at special Saturday sites managed by United Way's Earn It - Keep It - Save It campaign in partnership with Community Action Marin. Our goal for 2010 is to reach out to an even larger number of families in preparing their tax returns and assisting in solving tax issues that may arise. AARP Tax Aide has served Marin County for over 25 years.

Our sites are open during the tax season each year beginning on February 1st and ending on April 15th. Tax Preparation assistance includes electronic filing (e-file), a fast and convenient method for filing both federal and state taxes. Low and middle income residents of all ages are welcome to take advantage of this free service. The Tax-Aide program's funding sources include the Internal Revenue Service, AARP Foundation, and private contributions. Marin county residents graciously volunteer their time each year to make this program a success. Teaming with the United Way of the Bay Area and local non-profit partners gives us an opportunity to reach out further to residents of Marin with special Saturday events tailored to low income families. We have five convenient sites to serve Marin County: Mill Valley Community Center, San Rafael Community Center, Fairfax Library, Novato Human Needs Center, The Center for Volunteer Leadership near Northgate, plus special Saturday events in Pt. Reyes Station, Hamilton Field in Novato, and Pickleweed Center of San Rafael. New for 2010 is the convenience of appointments. Taxpayers may call 415-320-6191 or e--mail us at MarinTaxaide@gmail.com, leaving their name and phone number and we do the rest.
History:
AARP Tax-Aide evolved from a need that the national AARP organization recognized to assist low and middle income taxpayers as the tax preparation process became more and more difficult and complex for retirees. Tax-Aide now provides help to any and all taxpayers within income guidelines. AARP Tax-Aide is the largest, free, volunteer-run tax counseling and preparation service in the country. Volunteers see the direct, immediate benefit of helping others, plus knowing they are making a positive contribution toward helping their neighbors. Over 32,000 Tax-Aide volunteers committed their time and talents to help this past year in the U.S. With your help our volunteer base in Marin County can grow and support the needs of our community.
