Na Lei Aloha Foundation
| Last updated on March 23, 2012 |
Nā Lei Aloha Foundation's mission is to encourage harmony in diversity to build caring communities that value and live the aloha spirit.
Description:
Through grantmaking and hosting events that encourage relationship building, collaboration and mutual support, Nā Lei Aloha is a convener of individuals and organizations working to benefit others. We aim to provide people with opportunities to share in experiences that allow the recognition of mutual values and beliefs amid our differences. We believe that a truly peaceful world will result from the process of creating harmony in diversity. In addition to assisting various community groups and organizations, the Foundation provides support for "Lantern Floating Hawai`i," held annually on Memorial Day. This event provides a venue for all people of Hawai`i and the world to remember and honor loved ones who have gone before as well as to focus hearts and minds toward world peace. Volunteer opportunities with Nā Lei Aloha Foundation focus around the preparation towards and the carrying out of this community event.
History:
Nā Lei Aloha Foundation was formed in 2004, under the guidance of Her Holiness Keishu Shinso Ito as a way for the Shinnyo-en Buddhist Order to contribute to the Hawai`i community. Beloved kupuna, Aunty Malia Craver gave Nā Lei Aloha its name with a wish for the Foundation to help make Hawai`i a better place by bringing people together in cooperation and harmony.
