The Kehillah is a 501(c)3 non-profit community based social services agency serving the communities of Western Queens (Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, Corona, Woodside, Astoria, Sunnyside, Long Island City, Rego Park, etc.) Our mission is caring for those in need, combating hunger, eliminating poverty, rescuing those in harm's way, renewing and strengthening people in New York. We serve a diverse, growing multi-ethnic population - one of the poorest in NYC. Our "one-stop" agency provides social services, case management, food, entitlement assistance, community/cultural programs, and advocacy.

Description:
The Kehillah provides services to Seniors, Immigrants, Families, Youth, émigrés from the former Soviet Union (FSU), Poor and "Near poor," Working Class Professionals, and Special Needs (Bukharians, Holocaust survivors). Services are provided in Queens and the Bukharian communities in Lefrak City and Rego Park.

The agency provides Case Management, Counseling, Entitlement Assistance, Crisis Intervention, Information and Referrals, Kosher Meals-on-Wheels, Food pantry, ESL, Citizenship, Community/Cultural Programming, Housing Assistance, TANF, Food Vouchers, Food Stamps, Family Violence, Medicare Part D, Medicaid, SSI, Advocacy, Acculturation, E-learning, Translation, Job Assistance, and Computer Training.

The agency is responding to the growing needs of Seniors, Immigrants, Elderly "Aging in Place," Youth, ethnic diversity, poverty, and nearby neighborhoods lacking multi-service centers.

The Kehillah annually provides a series of free spring and summer community music and cultural events held at public sites.

History:
Since 1975, the Kehillah has been serving the needs of Western and Central Queens with kindness, compassion, caring, and understanding.
