Arthritis Foundation, West Michigan Region
The mission of the Arthritis Foundation is to improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis and related diseases.
Description:
We offer public information and physician referrals; we offer community programs and services: exercise, self-management and quality-of-life programs; and support research and professional education. 90% of the revenue we receive goes back into these programs; only 10% is used for administrative and fund raising expenses. The West Michigan office is primarily a fund raising office staffed by one person who plans and executes 3 annual events. Volunteers are very special to us, and are treated like GOLD! Office volunteers with MS Word and Excel proficiency are needed on a continuing basis. We also seek volunteers for special events such as the May 6, 2006, Arthritis Walk, for office help, forming teams, and event day duties.
History:
The Arthritis Foundation, Michigan Chapter, was the first chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, founded in 1948 by researchers at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Today the Foundation is the largest funder of arthritis research, along with the National Institute of Health.
