Uhuru Furniture
APEDF strives to develop and institutionalize programs to defend the human and civil rights of the African community and to address the grave disparities in education, health, health care and economic development of the African community.
Description:
Uhuru Furniture is a fundraiser for the African People's Education and Defense Fund. Uhuru Furniture is a volunteer based store in Oakland, CA. We resell quality donations of furniture from the Bay Area community. Volunteers participate in retail work, furniture pick-up, marketing projects graphics, and building community events and forums. Internships are always available. Uhuru Furniture is an example of genuine community economic development for the African community.
History:
Uhuru Furniture began at the Berkeley Flea Market, where we began to sell furniture and clothing donations. In 1989, we set up shop on Grand Ave in Oakland and have been developing our base of donors, shoppers and volunteers ever since. Two more stores have been opened in Philadelphia, PA and St. Petersburg, FL.
