Marin County Bicycle Coalition
Marin County Bicycle Coalition (MCBC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit membership organization that was founded in 1998. Our mission is to promote safe bicycling for everyday transportation and recreation.
Description:
The MCBC is working to make Marin County a model bicycle community for the nation. Better conditions for bicycling will shift auto trips to bicycle trips, improving the environment, reducing traffic, and benefiting personal and public health. Our goal is for 20% of all trips in Marin to be made by walking or bicycling. Our five main programs are: Building the Bicycle and Pedestrian Network, Safe Routes to Schools, Share the Road, Public Outreach, and Advancing the National Movement. Safe Routes to Schools is getting more children walking and bicycling to schools safely. The MCBC originated the program in the year 2000 and currently serves as a contractor to implement the County of Marin's national model Safe Routes to Schools program. Our primary means of support is from our members. Please consider joining at www.marinbike.org.
History:
Marin County Bicycle Coalition was founded in 1998 as a non-profit membership organization. Our organization has grown from an all-volunteer group to a nationally recognized non-profit with a staff of eight and a budget of $470,000 a year. Over the past seven years we have worked with local government agencies to secure over $30 million in government grants to improve bicycle and pedestrian routes in Marin. MCBC was active in shaping and helping to pass Measure A, the 1/2 cent transportation sales tax that will help fund transportation improvements in Marin County for the next 20 years.
