SABAH - NY - Buffalo
SABAH is an innovative, collaborative and fiscally prudent human service organization challenging Western New Yorkers with special needs and volunteer populations of WNY while increasing tolerance and collaboration in the local community.
Description:
SABAH is a human service organization whose purpose is to provide positive results through a therapeutic ice-skating program for:
- Individuals of all ages affected by physical challenges
- Volunteers who are seeking to benefit from personal interaction with challenged skaters
SABAH programming run out of 6 WNY ice rinks during weeknights and the weekend. Volunteers are encouraged to attend each week to form a relationship with skating partners. From Tuesday-Friday SABAH also hosts sessions from 9:00 am- 12:00 pm at the Riverside Skating Rink located at 2607 Niagara Street in Buffalo. During this time, challenged children are bussed to our facility from schools throughout Western New York to ice skate with the help of volunteers. Three, hour-long sessions are held daily from 9:30-11:30 on T/TH and 9:00-11:00 W/Fr. Volunteers are encouraged to attend more than one session a morning, but if they can only give one hour we are more than happy to have the help. We are also looking for help with our weekend and nightly skating programs, in addition to the Annual Ice Show at HSBC Arena in the Spring.
History:
SABAH has provided therapeutic ice-skating programs since 1977, with an annual ICE SHOW at HSBC Arena each spring.
