Teachers' Treasures
The mission of Teachers' Treasures is to help underprivileged children in the Indianapolis area get the materials they need to succeed in school by providing teachers with donated educational supplies for use by the students in their classroom.
Description:
Teachers' Treasures is a "free store" designed to furnish school supplies to students in low-income schools in Marion County. The supplies are given to students by inviting teachers from schools with a poverty index of 40% or higher to shop for free classroom materials at our store. Individuals and organizations throughout the Marion County area donate new and gently used items to be distributed to teachers. By supplying the most basic supplies to students and reusing office products, Teachers' Treasures helps to engage students in the learning process while keeping usable items out of landfills.
History:
Founded in 2000, Teachers' Treasures began serving 16 targeted schools with a high poverty index. Today, we serve over 100,000 schoolchildren in 239 schools with 40% or more of the students on the free or reduced lunch programs.
