The Volunteer Center Serving Western CT
The mission of The Volunteer Center is to be the leader in strengthening our communities by connecting people to volunteer service and providing resources to support nonprofit organizations.
Description:
The Volunteer Center impacts the community through a range of services. Our court-based Community Service Program places over 500 people per year in the nonprofit sector to make reparation by giving back to their community. We provide workshops and trainings for board members and staff of area nonprofits to help build their capacity to achieve their mission. The Recruitment and Referral Program connects community volunteers to serve nonprofits in the greater Danbury/New Milford areas. This program works with nonprofit agencies to help assess their volunteer needs and recruits volunteers to help fill those needs. Volunteers can be individuals (students to seniors); members of a group (coworkers, family, students, scouts, faith community or civic clubs). We work with potential volunteers to find meaningful volunteer opportunities for them. We assist in meeting volunteer needs for one day special events, short term needs, or for the long term. We also disseminate volunteer management information to nonprofit agencies. The Western CT Business Volunteer Council provides leadership in meeting community needs through mobilization of employee volunteers. This program also manages special projects to benefit low-income children in the community: Spring Buddy Baskets and the Back-to-School Clothing program.
History:
The Volunteer Center has been serving the greater Danbury area since 1975 and has been a partner agency with United Way since 1982. We are constantly looking at our programs to see how they can best meet community needs.
