Community Blood Bank of Sioux Falls
The Community Blood Bank is a cooperative, non-profit service of Avera McKennan Hospital and Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls. The mission of Community Blood Bank is to provide a safe, cost effective supply of blood to the hospitals and patients it serves through volunteer blood donations and community sponsored bloodmobile drives.

Community Blood Bank hosts bloodmobile drives at businesses, churches and organizations throughout Sioux Falls, and in eastern South Dakota, southwest Minnesota and northwest Iowa. More than 550 units of donated blood are needed each week to meet the needs of patients. Donated blood is critical in the treatment of cancer and other diseases; in surgeries and in emergency trauma care.
Community Blood Bank is the sole and exclusive supplier of blood and blood products to Sanford Medical Center and Avera McKennan Hospitals, VA Medical Center, and The Heart Hospital of South Dakota. In South Dakota, CBB also supplies Chamberlain, Watertown, Brookings, Madison, Freeman, Viborg, Vermillion, Canton, Dell Rapids, Clear Lake and Flandreau.
In Minnesota: Luverne, Worthington, Adrian, Jackson, Slayton, Tracy, Westbrook, Windom, Ivanhoe and Tyler.
In Iowa: Rock Rapids, Rock Valley, Sibley, Sheldon and Estherville.
Community Blood Bank is not affiliated with the Red Cross or any other blood organization. The blood donated in the towns we serve comes back to help local patients, and is available to them when they seek further treatment in Sioux Falls.
CBB relies on local businesses, churches and organizations to host bloodmobile drives and to encourage local donorship on behalf of local hospitals.
History:
Community Blood Bank began as Sioux Falls Blood Bank in the mid-70's as a joint venture to supply blood to Sanford Medical Center and McKennan Hospitals. Both health systems have grown dramatically throughout the region, and Community Blood Bank now serves thousands of local patients in over 29 communities.
