The Lord's Place is dedicated to breaking the cycle of homelessness by providing innovative, compassionate and effective services to men, women and children in our community.
Description:
Our Family Campus provides emergency and permanent-supportive housing for homeless families with children. The two programs are located in West Palm Beach. Each offers support services designed to address the issues that led to the family's homelessness. Units are fully furnished and food is provided through an on-site pantry. Families work with staff to develop a service plan and budget for saving money. Life skills seminars for adults and tutoring for children are also offered. Our Men's Campus provides three separate programs on one campus located in Boynton Beach. The Recovery Center houses 30 single men with substance abuse issues. Operation Jumpstart is a day program for chronically homeless men. Joshua House provides permanent supportive housing to 20 single men dealing with substance abuse issues and committed to changing their lives. Cafe Joshua, offers a wide variety of services such as employment assistance including job coaches and job placement, eye and dental care, a legal clinic, life skills seminars, haircuts, and even items many of us take for granted like soap and shampoo. Cafe Joshua offers a daily, three-course meal prepared by a certified executive chef. Guests are waited upon by a group of caring volunteer table servers. Our guests even share their meal with a volunteer table companion. Another component of Cafe Joshua is the Job Ready Program. This program provides clients with all the hard and soft skills related to interviewing for jobs and maintaining employment. The training is provided by staff each morning, and private volunteer tutoring is encouraged in the afternoons. The Micro-Enterprises of The Lord's Place provide hands-on training for formerly homeless individuals while creating agency income in three different apprentice programs: Chef's Apprentice Program, Retail Apprentice Program and Maintenance and Beyond Program. The Engagement Center is an innovative "point of entry" program that engages homeless and at-risk families and individuals on their terms. It is a low demand program that is open to anyone needing assistance and provides a relaxing home-like atmosphere that is missing from the lives of those living on the streets. It operates during non-traditional hours and provides a hot meal, peer mentoring, a resource center and targeted support services. One More Time, The Lord's Place thrift store is one step up from a conventional thrift store! While furthering the mission of the Lord's Place, it features quality merchandise for the home as well as apparel and accessories. In addition, it features a chic one-of-a-kind coffee bar. Material needs of The Lord's Place clients are met free of charge at the thrift store, and all store profit supports the operating costs of all programs at The Lord's Place. Our newest housing program, Operation Home-Ready, is a permanent supportive housing program for eight chronically homeless individuals. Residents live in their own residence while receiving ongoing support services to help them gain and maintain independence.
History:
For more than 25 years, The Lord's Place has been opening doors to those who have had their doors closed at the worst time in their lives. The Lord's Place began as a modest soup kitchen in 1979. Today, it is one of South Florida's most innovative, cost-effective and successful shelter programs.
