  3. Assist local congregations and clusters of congregations in their work and witness;
  4. Under the guidance of the Holy Scriptures:
a. promote education and public discussion on social and ethical issues;

  1. Promote interfaith understanding and dialogue.

  2. History:
    The United Council of Churches was formed on May 23, 1947, now called the Lancaster County Council of Churches. This historic beginning was preceded by a year-long study initiated by the Lancaster Ministerial Association in May of 1946. After a series of meetings and a provisional Assembly in January, 1947 the Organizing Committee was ready to propose a Constitution, By-Laws and the organizational structure to the delegates at the May session. These were adopted by the delegates and the LCCC came into being with the late C. Abram Snyder being elected the first President. The newly formed Council of Churches had a four point program: religious education and youth activities, department of evangelism, church women's activities and community relationships and social activities.
