Johnson County Adult Education

The mission of Johnson County Adult Education is to provide learning opportunities to educationally disadvantaged adults. JCAE recognizes the worth and importance of each individual and is dedicated to meeting the unique needs of each learner.
Johnson County Adult Education, sponsored by Johnson County Community College and Johnson County Library, provides classes and individualized instruction to help under-educated adults improve academic skills. Volunteer tutors are needed to help adult students improve reading, writing, and math skills,prepare for the GED test, or learn English as a second language. Volunteers tutor for 2-3 hours one day/evening each week for a minimum of six months. They work under the direction of a professional instructor assisting students with the curriculum that is provided.

Orientation sessions for new volunteers will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2010 from 6:30 - 8:00 PM at West Park Center, 9780 W. 87th St., Overland Park or on Sunday, January 24, 2010 from 2:00-4:00 PM at Johnson County Community College, CC, room 234.

Description:
Johnson County Adult Education provides basic skills instruction in reading, writing, math and everyday survival skills as well as GED test preparation to learners age 16 and over in individualized classrooms. Volunteers provide one-on-one tutoring. JCAE also offers English as a Second Language classes. These volunteers work with the instructors as classroom aides.
