Johnson County Museum
The Johnson County Museums is committed to expanding the public’s sense of community through an understanding of the county’s history and its place in American society. To achieve this purpose, the Museums collects and preserves artifacts and information that document the county’s heritage, and produces interpretive exhibits, educational programs and publications. The Museums is dedicated to the belief that we can learn from the past to understand better the present and future.
Description:
The Johnson County Museum operates three historic sites that interpret Johnson County's history. The Museum of History in Shawnee is home to the Seeking the Good Life exhibit, a temporary exhibit gallery and the museum's artifact, photograph and archival collection. The 1950s All-Electric House is adjacent to the Museum of History. This restored 1954 ranch home was a model home for Kansas City Power and Light. The Lanesfield School Historic Site in Edgerton is an 1869 schoolhouse on the former town site of Lanesfield. A modern visitor center has an exhibit on one-room schools in Kansas.
