AARP Tax-Aide
| Last updated on December 30, 2011 |
AARP Tax-Aide prepare and electronically files income tax returns for low- and middle-income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 and older. We also provide help in the preparation of state tax returns for NH and neighboring states. We help people regardless of age and whether or not they are AARP members.
Description:
AARP Tax-Aide is the nation's largest free tax preparation service. It is a volunteer run program. In NH, over 260 volunteers helped nearly 18,000 taxpayers with their tax returns in 2010. For those who are slef-learners, seff-paced on-line instruction is available to help volunteers become familiar with the current tax law and certified to prepare tax returns in the coming season. For those who prefer it, we have instructors and provide classroom training for new and returning volunteer tax counselors to become certified by the IRS to provide tax preparation services to taxpayers. Volunteer coordinators and specialists help organize and administer the program at local, district, and state levels.
History:
Our volunteers in NH filed 11,000 federal and state tax returns electronically. AARP Tax-Aide volunteers have been helping NH taxpayers for over 40 years. Most of our volunteers have many years experience. Electronic filing assures more accurate returns and faster refunds for taxpayers using our service. Not all of our volunteers prepare tax returns. Many volunteers do support, administrative, or computer related tasks to increase our efficiency.
