I CAN SCHOOLS
| Last updated on January 9, 2012 |
Our mission is to prepare students for a college preparatory high school that will ensure success and graduation from a four year college. The vision of I CAN SCHOOLS is to create a culture of high expectations for behavior and academics through rigorous, research-based curricula and a focus on achievement. It is our goal that ICS students will graduate from eighth grade, attend a college preparatory high school and ultimately gain acceptance to and graduate from a four year college. It is our expectation that 100% of I CAN SCHOOLS graduates will positively affect change in their local communities while making a contribution to our global society.
Description:
Currently, I CAN SCHOOLS serves students in grades Kindergarten through eighth at Cleveland College Preparatory School, in the Slavic Village Neighborhood and Northeast Ohio College Preparatory School in the near west side neighborhood of Tremont. I CAN SCHOOLS programs are innovative, ambitious, and it is the expectation that all of the graduating eighth graders attend Northeast Ohio College Preparatory School, upper school for a college preparatory high school experience. All of the I CAN SCHOOLS programs are modeled after high-performing charter school found in other urban centers across the country. In the fall of 2011, I CAN SCHOOLS will open its new K-8 school: University of Cleveland Preparatory School, located in midtown Cleveland!
History:
Co-founders, Jason Stragand and Marshall Emerson III, were the founding administration of highly successful, and highly touted, Ohio charter public schools. Their schools were successful in closing the achievement gap for low income students from Ohio's underserved neighborhoods. Over the past decade, hundreds of visitors have passed through the thresholds of their schools and have become fans and advocates of their successes.
