Avalon House

It is the goal of the Avalon House to assist the homeless and low-income individuals and families in our area to become more self-sufficient by providing affordable housing, free meals through our soup kitchen, and budgeting, job-skills, life skills and resource information through full time case management services.

Description:
Our agency is broken up into a couple sections. On one side is the Avalon House transistional housing apartments which will provide affordable housing options for low income and homeless individuals and families. These apartments are brand new apartments with many nice amenities including granite countertops and solar panels attached to the roof reducing the costs of utility bills. On the other side of the agency is our non-profit which runs a thrift store and soup kitchen to provide hot meals to the community 3 meals a day, 7 days a week. The thrift store and soup kitchen are seperate entities but will be housed in the same building allowing easy access for residents.

History:
Are program has been part of this community for many years and many people knew it as the Union Gospel Mission or the Golden Rule Mission. Then it was an emergency shelter but still ran the thrift store and soup kitchen. We are continuing with many of the same services but have switched to a more permanent view of transistional housing.
