About Arts to Grow
Hundreds of thousands of children in the New York City metro area attend schools that have little or no access to the arts. Arts to Grow (ATG) seeks to remedy this inequity by offering inner-city children the chance to explore the visual, literary and performing arts. ATG has partnered with area public schools and community-based organizations to provide a variety of classes to at-risk kids between the ages of 5 and 18.
Our programs offer young people an in-depth, hands-on opportunity to work with a professional teaching artist. The students create original works during class sessions that meet for one to two hours per week and last for 8 to 15 weeks. Our programs are free and take place in the neighborhoods of at-risk inner-city children. Students attend the classes during after-school programs, weekends and summertime. In the process, they use the arts as a means to solve problems, expand their imaginations and work together.
