Rural Utah Child Development Early Head Start

To promote healthy prenatal outcomes for pregnant women, enhance the development of very young children, and promote healthy family functioning.

Description:
Early Head Start is a free, home based program for low-income infants and toddlers, infants and toddlers with disabilities, and pregnant women. Ten percent of our families may be over income. We provide services in Carbon, Grand, and San Juan counties. We provide home based services to 27 families in Carbon county, home based services to 9 families in Grand county, and home based services to 18 families and center based services to 8 families in San Juan county. Home based services consist of a weekly 1 1/2 hour home visit provided by a highly trained, caring & nurturing family educator. They share information with parents on ways to help children learn and grow. We also offer a Baby Buddy Group twice a month for the family to come together with other families in the program and enjoy a nutritious meal, a fun activity, child free play and socialization time for the parents. We also offer is a monthly Parent meeting where we follow a "Theme of the Month" that includes topics on parenting and children's health and development.

History:
Rural Utah Child Development Head Start has been providing an early education experience for children ages 3-5 since 1966. Services are offered in Uintah, Carbon, Sevier, Emery, Grand, Piute, Wayne, and San Juan counties. Early Head Start has been providing services to infants and toddlers ages 0-3, and prenatal women since 1999. Currently services are offered in Carbon, Grand, and San Juan counties.
