PET MI-Holland
The PET Project has two main goals: A. To provide mobility to some the least of God's children, and, B. To provide the opportunity for meaningful volunteer work for retirees, students, and others in the U.S.A.
Description:
P.E.T. is a faith based, non-profit agency with the sole purpose of making and giving away hand-cranked wheelchairs. These Personal Energy Transportation vehicles are designed for persons without mobility (due to land mines, polio, birth defects, etc). They are distributed to third world countries by helping organizations who partner with PET for that purpose. The people involved in the manufacturing and in the distributing of the two sizes of PETs (adult and child)are all volunteers. No one get paid in the fulfillment of this ministry. It is supported entirely by donations of money, time, and materials. No governmental agency, grants, or subsidies are involved in any way in Pet International or any of its affiliates.
History:
PET became a reality through the compassion and ingenuity of a missionary in Africa and some engineers in the U.S. In the mid 1990's it was 'created' to help victims without legs get up off the ground and back into society. The first PET Plant was in Columbia, MO,in 2000, then two were established overseas in Zambia. It "evolved" and grew in these few short years to number 16 in the U.S. and 4 in foreign countries. PET expanded its reach this July, 2009 to the 77th country. The newest PET Plant is in Holland, MI at 124 E. 6th St. They are dedicated to the child size only and began constructing them on July 7th. In the beginning they are working three and a half days a week.
