The mission of the Machestic Dragons is to empower breast cancer survivors to overcome the physical, psychological, and emotional effects of battling breast cancer through the ancient sport of dragon boat racing.

Description:
The Machestic Dragons are proud to be New Jersey’s first Breast Cancer Survivor (BCS) dragon boat team. Dragon Boat Racing is an ancient Chinese tradition that has gained popularity in the Breast Cancer Survivor community because it rebuilds upper body strength, helps prevent lymphedema, and provides the emotional support and camaraderie that breast cancer survivors need to heal. These women (and some men) are literally and figuratively “all in the same boat”. Our program provides the structure and means for survivors to train and compete in BCS dragon boat events while becoming empowered to overcome the physical, psychological, and emotional effects of battling breast cancer. Our signature event is the Annual Paddle for Pink Community Dragon Boat Festival which will be held this year on June 7, 2009 at Mercer County Park. Members of the community are invited to come out to paddle in dragon boat "fun" races to raise awareness of breast cancer and the services available to breast cancer survivors. The proceeds of the festival benefit our partner the Princeton YWCA Breast Cancer Resource Center and our team.

History:
We are a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization founded six years ago to raise awareness in the community of prevalence of breast cancer and to support breast cancer survivors. Our members come from all over the Central New Jersey area, and even Pennsylvania. We welcome both breast cancers survivors as well as non-survivors, whom we call "supporters", to join our team. Men are welcomed, too! We hold our practices from April through October at Mercer County Park Lake. In keeping with Chinese tradition, for the past three years we have hosted the Paddle for Pink Community Dragon Boat Festival to benefit our partner, the Princeton YWCA Breast Cancer Resource Center and our team.
