The mission of Spay Neuter Idaho Pets, Inc. (SNIP) is to reduce animal overpopulation by establishing and maintaining high volume reduced-cost spay/neuter services for dogs, domestic cats and feral cat trap-neuter-return programs. We plan to promote humane education through schools and community outreach programs and develop a mobile spay/neuter service for under served Idaho locations. Our focus is to serve feral cats and pets whose owners cannot afford spay/neuter services. Public donations and grants will help to subsidize the surgeries that pet owners cannot afford to pay.

Description:
The need for a high volume low cost spay and neuter clinic in our community is great. Over 12,000 cats and dogs are killed yearly in the Treasure Valley due to the pet over population. Money is tight and many responsible pet owners just cannot afford to have their animals spay and neutered, our facility will offer this service, along with an active Trap, Neuter and Release program for feral cats. A feral cat is the offspring of two abandoned domestic cats. Along with the clinic we will shuttle animals in from outlying areas, and as funds become available we will create more low cost clinics throughout the state. As important as spay and neutering is the education aspect. We are going to create and maintain a very detailed education program that will help individuals understand how their actions help and hurt the animal population, what they can do to help, and humane treatment. We also want to get the animal groups, shelters, rescue groups and the community to work together to help save innocent animal lives.

History:
We started SNIP by approaching the Humane Society Auxiliary early in 2008 to operate a low-cost spay and neuter clinic under their nonprofit auspices. The Auxiliary agreed, the Humane Society donated the use of their clinic and volunteer vets/techs/community members collaborated to conduct our first clinic on April 1, 2008. After a couple of months it became evident that a full-time high-volume clinic would be critical for helping to solve the pet overpopulation problem. So, with pencil in hand, a new 501c3 animal welfare group was created while the Auxiliary clinic continued to operate. The mission of Spay Neuter Idaho Pets, Inc. is to reduce animal overpopulation by establishing and maintaining high volume, low-cost spay/neuter services and feral cat trap-neuter-return programs, promote humane education through schools and community outreach programs, and develop a mobile spay/neuter program and/or satellite clinics for under served Idaho locations. By collaborating with local animal welfare organizations and veterinarians on these activities, we can leverage our resources and expand and accelerate our impact. At this time we are over 40% of our goal of getting a clinic and actively looking for a building. We currently work with three veterinary clinics and provide low cost spay and neuter services to the lower 50% of of economic community and feral caregivers, and subsidize up to 100% those that meet financially criteral, which is about 40% of those that qualify for our low cost program.

Visit our website at www.snipidaho.org to learn more. Opportunities for volunteers both behind the scenes and on the front lines are abundant! If you are interested, please contact us at snipit@snipidaho.org . Our goal is to have a clinic established and operating by the end of 2009. This is no small endeavor we're undertaking, and the approximate price tag is going to be about $250,000. We are 40% of the way there in just 7 months of fundraising. If you know of someone with land and/or a building to donate in support of this wonderful cause for the animals, please let us know. Thank you.
