Kahl Home For The Aged & Infirm

We, at the Kahl Home, pledge to every resident constant effort in providing the best possible quality of care administered with full attention to their needs, their self esteem, and their dignity. The residents' physical, spiritual, and emotional care is our primary concern.

Description:
The Kahl Home has four units with a combined number of 15 double rooms and 102 private rooms. Each floor has its own dining room and there is also a main dining room on the ground floor; each dining room overlooks the Mississippi river. There is a therapy room for our residents. We have mass here daily in our chapel. Among our staff we have a Dietitian as well as Social Workers and an activity staff that provides activities on each unit. We have a van available for outings such as lunches out, shopping trips and an occasional stop at the Casino boat. Our activity department also has adaptive computer labs that provide a variety of innovative programs to our residents on all of the units. With these labs residents are also able to send and receive emails.

History:
In December of 1954, four Sisters arrived in Davenport at the invitation of the Bishop, the Most Reverend Ralph Hayes. The Kahl Family had given the original house and property to the diocese for a charitable purpose. The building was made ready by March of 1955, and housed 29 female residents. An immediate need for more rooms was seen and a fund raising drive was started. Construction of the present Kahl Home was completed in March of 1963; due to increasing health care needs of the residents it became evident that dining rooms were necessary on the nursing units. This project was completed in 1987, at that time twelve additional beds were added.
