Boys And Girls Clubs Of Bloomington
Logo

The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

Description:
In every community, boys and girls are left to find their own recreation and companionship in the streets. An increasing number of children are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know that someone cares about them.

Boys & Girls Clubs offer that and more. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence.

Boys & Girls Clubs are a safe place to learn and grow-all while having fun. They are truly The Positive Place For Kids.

A Boys & Girls Club Provides:

A safe place to learn and grow
Ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals
Life-enhancing programs and character development experiences
Hope and opportunity

A Safe Place for Kids
Every day boys and girls in the Bloomington flash their membership cards to come into a safe haven where they are accepted for who they are, encouraged to do their best, and leave knowing they are valued and understood. Four key characteristics define the essence of a Boys & Girls Club. All are critical in exerting positive impact on the life of a child.

Dedicated Youth Facility
The Boys & Girls Club is a place-an actual neighborhood-based building-designed solely for youth programs and activities.

Open Daily
The Club is open every day, after school and on weekends, when kids have free time and need positive, productive outlets.

Professional Staff
Every Club has full-time, trained youth development professionals, providing positive role models and mentors. Volunteers provide key supplementary support.

Available/Affordable to All Youth
Clubs reach out to kids who cannot afford, or may lack access to, other community programs.

History:
The Boys Club Inc. was founded on August 21, 1956 by the optimist club and interested citizens.
The first facility was at 100 South College above University Sporting Goods. The Boys Club purchased the armory, which it had been using for three years, for $50,275 as the new permanent facility for the Boys Club in 1964. The Boys Club of Bloomington became a Boys & Girls Club on August 31, 1994--serving girls for the first time.

Boys And Girls Clubs Of Bloomington 5 Overall Experience    Experience rating
The staff and volunteers are great to work with, and the children are the best.

The Boys and Girls club is truly about supporting and encouraging children. I gained responsibility and an entire new outlook on the possibilities I have to help better a child's future.

Boys And Girls Clubs Of Bloomington 5 Overall Experience    Experience rating
It's amazing to have a positive influence on children looking for someone to make a difference!!!!

I volunteered in the "Teen Room" of the Bloomington Boys and Girls club. At first, the experience was a bit nerve recking, being 18 and counseling kids anywhere from 1 year to 5 years younger than me. I am just so fortunate to have learned how to make a positive difference in the lives of my peers by being a positive example of a fellow youth on the road to success!!!
