OLHSA enables low-income, elderly and disabled persons living in Oakland and Livingston Counties to become more self-sufficient.

In pursuit of this mission we will...

  1. Advocate on clients' behalf to provide more opportunities and fewer barriers.

  2. Provide educational and economic resources to increase client self-sufficiency.

  3. Help reduce the causes and effects of poverty.

  4. Foster citizen participation to initiate programs and improve existing services based upon local community needs.

    History:
    OLHSA was founded in 1964 as a part of Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty. Currently, we have 74 programs to assist families and individuals on their road to self-sufficiency. Our programs are designed specifically for our Oakland and Livingston County communities and include: early childhood education, HIV/AIDS support services, prisoner re-entry services, chore assistance services, emergency services, Weatherization and asset development.
