Eagle Wings DisAbility Ministries

Agency Details:

Eagle Wings DisAbility Ministries
Logo

The mission of Eagle Wings is to bring persons with disabilities and the community at large together in an inclusive setting to experience mutual acceptance and to develop and introduce new relationships for persons with disabilities with caring persons with potential for long-term friendships which may extend beyond the Celebration events.

Description:
People with disabilities have few places to go where they can feel accepted and are free to enjoy themselves. We offer Celebrations (parties, ie birthday, valentines, Christmas etc.) so they can have places to go, meet friends and have social activities, music, crafts etc. Working in partnership with us, church communities host these Celebrations in conjunction with Eagle Wings bringing together an inclusive gathering of persons with disabilities from a particular church and the community at large. Every effort is made to provide a warm and supportive setting so that all who attend feel welcomed and included. The purpose is to CELEBRATE the persons we serve. Bring them together and help them discover their own unique gifts. We also provide one on one communication with a volunteer who listens and encourages these individuals by phone through our PROJECT HELLO. We also provide FRIEND TO FRIEND opportunities with volunteers. Our CIRCLE OF FRIENDS is help provided by volunteers for those who want to learn new things and problem solve their own needs.

History:
Eagle Wings disability Ministries was founded in September 2000 after discovering there are over 111,000 persons with disabilities in North Puget Sound. Over 36,000 are severely disabled. We form relationships with persons with disabilities to address their loneliness and isolation and marginalization by matching them with a volunteer who is willing to come along side and help.
