NAMI Dane County is a support, education, and advocacy group dedicated to the improvement of the quality of life of people whose lives are affected by mental illness.
Description:
NAMI Dane County provides support groups, classes about mental illness, advocacy, a free lending library, and a speakers bureau. Family members, relatives, friends, people with mental illnesses, and mental health providers, any interested in improving the quality of life for people with mental illnesses is welcome. All services are free and available to consumers, family members, schools, and community agencies and organizations. All support groups, classes, and speakers are volunteers who have some type of experience with mental illness.
History:
NAMI Dane County was founded in Madison in 1977. NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) became a national organization in 1979. NAMI Dane County is and has been the largest grass roots organization supporting, educating, and advocating for individuals and families affected with mental illness.
