Evergreen Hospice And Palliative Care
Hospice care isn’t about giving up…it’s about providing hope to people facing a life-limiting illness – hope of living their lives free from pain, without fear and in the comforting circle of family and friends. With the help of our volunteers, Evergreen Hospice provides physical, emotional, and spiritual support as well as companionship to individuals living with a terminal illness and their families. The most valuable skill a volunteer can have is the ability to provide compassionate presence. They increase the quality of life by offering comfort care and companionship to patients and respite and emotional support to the family system. Care is provided in patient’s private homes, retirement homes, adult family homes, skilled nursing facilities and the hospice in-patient center located in Kirkland. Evergreen Hospice serves both King and Snohomish Counties. If you are interested in becoming a hospice volunteer, please complete our online application. We also require 3 professional/personal references and a background check, and there is a $40 registration fee required before attending the Evergreen Hospice and Palliative Care Core Training.
Description:
At some time in our lives, we all will face the terminal illness of a family member or dear friend. Having people to turn to for help in making each day, even the last one, worth living is invaluable. That’s what Evergreen Hospice is all about. Evergreen Hospice provides a full range of services to help families through the difficult time associated with the loss of a loved one. These services are available along the complex journey; from the moment a life limiting prognosis is given, through the pain of letting go and saying goodbye, and on to the adjustment to a changed life. Hospice and Palliative Care volunteers are a part of the hospice team. Volunteers complete a comprehensive training so they feel comfortable serving patients at the ends of their lives. Volunteers are supported by the other hospice team members and by the volunteer coordinators.
History:
Born in 1988 when the voters of King County Hospital District No.2 approved a 4.4 million-dollar bond issue to construct the facility. Evergreen Hospice Center opened for patient care on February 18, 1991. Evergreen Hospice Center was designed by the Seattle architectural firm of Mahlum & Nordfors and received an Honorable Mention Award in a design contest for health care facilities in 1992. Located on the campus of Evergreen Health Care, the 20,500 square foot Hospice Center provides a homelike environment allowing families to remain with and assist in the care of their loved ones. Evergreen Hospice Center has two wings - wing I has six private rooms and wing II has nine. Each patient room has a window seat and sofa bed to accommodate family members who wish to remain with the patient. Each room has its own private bath with roll-in shower and all the rooms open to the outside with a private patio. In addition to a family kitchen on each patient wing, there is one family room on the nine patient wing and one on the six patient wing.
