Tacoma Events Commission
| Last updated on June 30, 2011 |
The Tacoma Events Commission creates wonderful and lasting memories through production and management of several family-oriented community events in Pierce County.
Description:
Producer of Tacoma's annual 4th of July festival, Freedom Fair, for over 30 years. Recruited to produce the award-winning Tall Ships Tacoma 2005, and created the Gray Sky Blues Music Festival in conjunction with the annual Grand Floral Parade in Tacoma. Produces the Orting Pumpkin Fest in early October, and the South Prairie Salmon Homecoming festival in late September. The Tacoma Events Commission's all-volunteer board strives to provide the best in entertainment and family activities at multiple events with the help of community volunteers. Managing our events is similar to running a small city, and volunteers are needed for a diverse array of tasks, including vendor assistance, parking and security, logistics, set-up and clean-up, hospitality, sponsorship development and fulfillment, finance management, publicity and marketing, website management, graphic design, and more. Committees meet throughout the year for planning and management, so there are many different opportunities for both long-term and episodic volunteers.
History:
The Tacoma Events Commission was created over 30 years ago to ensure that Tacoma's 4th of July celebration was a family-oriented, community-inclusive event. Over the years, Tacoma Events Commission has also accepted the call to produce the wildly successful Tall Ships festival in 2005, and worked with the producers of the Daffodil Parade in Tacoma to create teh Gray Sky Blues Music Festival to attract locals and visitors to downtown Tacoma after the parade. Our all-volunteer board of directors, under the guidance of executive director Doug Miller, strives to ensure there is something for everyone at each event, creating life-long memories along the way.
