Our mission is to provide legal representation to victims of rape and sexual assault to help rebuild their lives, and to promote a national movement committed to seeking justice for every rape and sexual assault victim.

Description:
Like a rock thrown into calm water, sexual assault causes a ripple throughout a victim's life. One's privacy, education, housing, employment, immigration status and financial security can all be ruined for years after an assault. The Victim Rights Law Center (VRLC) addresses these legal needs. Our legal interventions help victims to heal, hope, and to speak, preventing a single incident of sexual assault from ruining a victim's entire life. The VRLC is the nation’s first non-profit law center dedicated solely to helping sexual assault victims.
Since 2000, we have provided:
Direct services to over 1,000 clients in Massachusetts and training and technical assistance to approximately 240 non-profit law centers located in all 50 U.S. states.

History:
The Victim Rights Law Center first began with an in-house staff of two Boston-area practicing attorneys working collaboratively with a local network of 8 pro bono attorneys to provide legal assistance to victims of sexual assault. Since our inception, the VRLC has served more than 2,100 clients in the Boston area, with plans to continue to expand our services statewide over the next year. In addition to our five in-house direct services staff attorneys, a panel of more than 147 pro bono lawyers from over 20 law firms assist rape victims with their legal needs.
With this unique expertise to address the legal rights of sexual assault victims, we found ourselves in a position to transform so many more lives: If we could be effective locally, perhaps it was also our responsibility to help victims everywhere. Since 2004, the VRLC has served as the sole technical assistance and training provider for the Office on Violence Against Women on non-domestic sexual assault issues throughout the country, touching approximately 240 non-profit law centers located across all 50 states.
